To the Mountain: Week 2 - Meeting God
Before Israel ever hears the Ten Words, God brings them to the foot of a mountain wrapped in thunder, lightning, fire, and thick cloud. In Week 2 of our series “To The Mountain,” we stand with Israel at Sinai and ask: What kind of God are we meeting here?
Texts:
Exodus 19:1–19; 20:18–21
Hebrews 12:18–24
We’ll see:
– God’s covenant proposal: “You shall be My treasured possession… a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”
– The people’s “I do” and the serious preparation to meet a holy God.
– The holy encounter of Exodus 19–20, where the people tremble and stand far off.
– How Hebrews 12 invites us to meet the same holy God through a greater mediator, Jesus. Reflection questions:
– Do you tend to “stand far off” from God, or draw near?
– Where do you need to recover a sense of reverence—and where do you need to rest in the confidence Christ gives?
